On this page, you can find some mistakes that have occurred on the show. They happen mostly because the writers sometimes forget what they wrote about a couple of seasons earlier (or even weeks earlier).

  • In "The One With The Fake Party" in season 4, Rachel says that she's 28. So, she would be 29 in season 5, but, in season 5 ("The One Where Phoebe Hates PBS"), Ross says that he's not 30 yet, so, he would be 29 too. Ross is suppose to be a few years older than Rachel.
  • In a couple of seasons, Joey is on the T.V. drama, Days of Our Lives but that's shot in California, and Friends takes place in New York.
  • In "The One With Rachel's Assistant" (Season 7), Monica asks Rachel if she can still get a discount on her wedding dress (Rachel works at Ralph Lauren) and Rachel says yes, but in "The One With The Cheap Wedding Dress", the girls are trying to get a dress from a discount store in Brooklyn.
  • In "The One With The Cop" in season 5, Joey says that he met Rachel before Phoebe, but in the pilot episode, Joey and Phoebe were already hanging out when he met Rachel.
  • In "The One With The Mugging" Joey is seen taking a bunch of drinks out of Monica's refrigerator. In the first shot the drinks are cans and glass bottles but in the second second shot, they are all cans.
  • In "The One With The Lottery" in season 9, at the end of the episode in the last scene, you see all of the Friends with the same clothes that they had on last night even though it was in the morning. How come they didn't change their clothes in two days?
  • In "The One Where Rosita Dies" in season 7, Phoebe says that for the whole year, the only massage clients she's had were Ross and Monica. A couple of episodes earlier, we see that she has a bunch of clients.
  • In "The One With Phoebe's Dad", (Season 2) Phoebe says that her dad ran out on her before she was born. Later, in season 5, ("The One With Joey's Bag") she meets her dad and he says he was a horrible father. He couldn't get her to go to sleep, he made her cry, and he put her diapers on backwards. This means he ran out on her when she was a baby, not before she was born.
  • In "The One With The Secret Closet" in season 8, Phoebe says that Monica never lets her give her messages. In season 7, they mention that Phoebe did message Monica at least once.
  • In the Pilot episode, Monica is introducing Chandler to Rachel for the first time, but they already knew each other from school.
  • Rachel refers to her ex-fiancee as Barry Finkel in the pilot. In the rest of the show, he is known as Barry Farber.
  • In "The One With The Boobies" in the first season, Rachel mentions being at Phoebe's birthday but Phoebe's birthday is celebrated later in the season ("The One With Both Parts") and it couldn't have been the year before because Rachel didn't even know Phoebe then.
  • In "The One With The Jellyfish" in season 4, Monica keeps refusing Chandler's request for her to offer him a chance to be her boyfriend becasue she claims he will always be the guy who "peed on her." She never even mentions that throughout their whole relationship that started only 1 year later.
  • On TV shows, guest stars are not suppose to appear on the show if their real names where already mentioned but that has happened many times on Friends.
    • The boys' favorite movie is "Die Hard," a movie that Bruce Willis is in, but Bruce Willis appeared on Friends for 3 episodes in season 6 as Paul.
    • Alec Baldwin is mentioned is season 3 and later appears in season 8 as Parker, Phoebe's VERY enthusiastic boyfriend..
    • In season 1, Monica mentions "Mrs. Doughtfire". Robin Williams is in that movie but later appears in the third season as a crazy guy in the coffeehouse with Billy Crystal.
    • Susan Sarandon is mentioned by Ross in season 3 and later appears in season 7 as an actress on Days of Our Lives with Joey.
    • In season 2, Chandler mentions Sean Penn while he's talking to Eddie, his psycho roommate. Sean Penn appears in season 8 as Ursula's fiance in "The One With The Halloween Party".
    • In "The One Where Old Yeller Dies" in season 2, Monica gives Phoebe a movie to watch called "It's A Wonderful Life" but Marlo Thomas (Rachel's Mom) is in a remake of that movie.
    • Tom Selleck appears on Friends throughout the series but in "The One Where No One's Ready" at the end of the episode, Ross mentions "Magnum P.I.," which is a long-running T.V. show that Selleck was on.
    • Elliot Gould (Mr. Geller) was married to Barbra Striesand from 1963 to 1971, but Barbra Striesand was mentioned on the show 3 times. She was even mentioned about a minute before Jack was in the scene -- "The One After 'I Do' ".
    • In "The One With Ross'' Wedding, Part 1" Richard Branson played the guy who sold Joey a hat in London, but Branson is the chairman of Virgin Airways, the same airline that took the gang from New York to London.
    • Julia Roberts was a guest star in season 2 (The One After The Superbowl), but In "The One Where Rachel's Sister Babysits" in season 10, Amy calls herself 'Erin Brokovich,' refering to a movie that Julia Roberts starred in.
  • Ross says that he's 29 years old in the third, fourth, and fifth season ("The One Where Monica and Richard Are Just Friends," "The One Where They're Going To Party,'' & "The One Where Phoebe Hates PBS"). Does that mean he doesn't grow for three years?
  • OK, let's say he was only 29 in season 4. Monica says that she's "25... and 13 months" in the first season. That would mean that she's 27 in season 2, 28 in season 3, and 29 in season 4. Just like Ross! Monica is supposed to be younger than her 'older brother.'
  • In "The One Where Chandler Can't Cry" Chandler says he never cries, but in 'The One Where Everybody Finds Out" Rachel claims that Phoebe made Chandler cry 'using only her words.'
  • In "The One Where Ross Dates A Student" we see Ross eating ice cream but in "The One Where Chandler Doesn't Like Dogs" Ross says he hates ice cream.
